Step 1
Select a bra. Be sure the bra fits well. It should allow you to dance freely while still fitting snug. If you want a little more coverage pick a bra with fringe on the base of the bra.
-
Step 2
Buy a matching skirt. The skirt should be long, fit well and be loose enough to perform the moves. Select a skirt with a slit up the side which is easier to dance in. Consider a skirt that has two or three panels.
-
Step 3
Choose your color. Belly dance costumes should be colorful. Select a color that you like and flatters your skin tone.
-
Step 4
Be sure the fabric is a good quality. It needs to be strong enough to not tear during a dance performance. Accessories such as coins or sequins should be sewn on tight to prevent them from falling off as you dance.
-
Step 5
Add beads. Egyptian belly dance costumes usually include elaborate bead work. Beads are made of plastic or glass. Glass beading may be a bit more expensive. However it reflects the light better than plastic and makes the colors appear more vibrant.
-
Step 6
Pick a belt that matches your skirt and bra. The belt should also include beading. Traditional Egyptian belly dancing belts are usually rectangular in the front. It should be loose enough to go over your skirt but snug enough to stay in place as you dance.
-
Step 7
Wear accessories. Add to your belly dance costume by wearing jewelry. Wear bracelets, wrist cuffs, anklets and arm bands. Don't wear anything that will restrict the movement of your arms.
