Jujitsu is a martial art that centers around grappling. Jujitsu was created by a Japanese man who used a combination of other martial arts to perfect the jujitsu style. The gi is the uniform worn during competing, practicing or performing jujitsu. Use the gi in combat to add to your advantage.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Utilize the gi's collar to perform chokes. Grab your opponent's collar and pull across.

  2. Step 2

Control your opponent's arms by holding her sleeves. For example, if she is in your guard, grab the ends of her sleeves to control her arms. If she tries to stand up, move in to an open guard with your feet on her waist. Push with your feet and hand to throw her over.

  3. Step 3

Grab the bottom of the lapel and pull across the body to choke your opponent. Another way to use the lapel in combat is to get into a Jiu Jitsu side control position and pull your lapel out of your belt. Pull the lapel across your opponent's neck and grab it from under his neck with your free hand. Twist your body and choke him.

  4. Step 4

Square off with a partner in a gi. Move your arm across her body and grab the collar of her gi. Grab the other side with your other hand. Pull your arms outward to choke your opponent.

  5. Step 5

Get into the mounted position. Place one arm under your opponent's head. Place four fingers of the hand under your opponent's head into the sleeve on the opposite arm. Slide your arm across the opponents neck to choke him.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use jackets and shirts in the same way as a gi in a street fight.
