Brazilian jujitsu's armbar from the mounted position is one of the most basic and effective ways of ending a fight by submission. The armbar provides you with a quick and safe means of getting your jujitsu opponent into a position from which you can break his elbow.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a stable mount on your opponent. Edge your knees upwards so they are as close to your opponent's armpits as possible. Begin to pressure your opponent by going for chokes or by leaning your body weight onto him so that he pushes up on your chest with both his arms.

  2. Step 2

Select an arm for the armbar once your opponent starts to push against your chest. As his arms extend, lock the arm you chose by moving one arm around his arm and then placing your hand on his chest. Place your other hand on his chest between his arms.

  3. Step 3

Lean down and put all your weight on his chest. Lift up with your hip so your lower half comes off the ground. Swing your leg that's on the same side as your arm that went around his locked arm and step over his head. Grab your opponent's wrist.

  4. Step 4

Roll back into a lying position as you hold your opponent's wrist. As you fall back throw your other leg over your opponent's midsection. Hold his wrist with his thumb facing upward. Raise your hips and keep a downward pressure on his arm to execute the armbar.
