Step 1
Purchase soccer cleats. Rugby players are not allowed to have a toe cleats because of safety purposes. However, soccer cleats do not have these but football and baseball cleats do. Be sure they fit correctly.
-
Step 2
Get a rugby jersey. These jerseys are made for the wear and tear of the game. There are plenty of times your jersey will be pulled on and held on to, but these jerseys usually do not tear. If you do not have a jersey, wear a t-shirt that you do not mind getting ripped up.
-
Step 3
Choose shorts that are either one size to small or have a draw string so you can pull them tight. You will get tackled and pulled on throughout the game and you definitely want your shorts to stay around your waist.
-
Step 4
Find socks that are very long and go up to your knee. This will protect your shins from the ground that you will be on several times during the match. Make sure they fit well and are not too tight or loose on your feet.
-
Step 5
Wear a mouth guard. Since no helmet is worn in this contact sport, protecting your mouth and teeth is very important and the mouth guard should be worn anytime you are on the pitch.
