The Charlie Rock in break dancing originates from the popular dance in the 1920's called the Charleston. The Charleston is very much in evidence in the Charlie Rock moves and steps, but it's given some funkiness.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Do the Charleston by swinging your arms back and forth, and alternately kicking your legs forward and back. When you kick your leg back, lean your torso forward, then tip it back as your other leg kicks forward.
Step2
Transform the Charleston into the Charlie Rock by turning your feet instead of doing the kicks of the Charleston.
Step3
Do the Charlie Rock steps and moves by placing the left foot in front of the right foot and the right foot in from of the left foot. Twist both feet in and out as you place them on the ground.
Step4
Bring the right foot back behind your left foot, then bring your left foot behind the right foot, twisting both feet as you step.
Step5
Keep your torso more upright and do not swing your arms as much when you're doing the Charlie Rock moves and steps.
Step6
Move however you'd like when you're doing the Charlie Rock moves and steps, but keep doing the above pattern with your feet. As long as the hints of the original Charleston are still there, you're set.
Step7
Allow your body to get looser as you're doing the Charlie Rock moves and steps. Swing your arms in different ways by crossing them or doing whatever. Just keep those feet in the basic pattern, and you've mastered the Charlie Rock moves and steps.
