The back spin is the most recognized and central move in break dancing. The move uses simple sweeps of the legs and a tight upper body position to spin the dancer for a few impressive seconds.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sit on the ground with your legs spread apart in front of you. Keep your knees straight but not locked.

  2. Step 2

Sweep your right leg up off the ground and over your left leg. Allow your hips to rotate off the ground as you do this.

  3. Step 3

Raise your right leg up straight into the air as it sweeps to your left leg. Rotate your hips back to the original position so you stay lying prone on your back. Let your left leg sweep out along the ground so the small of your back stays flat against the ground.

  4. Step 4

Bring your left leg up into the air by allowing your right leg to fall, with your knee straight, to your right side. As your left leg rises into the air settle into a position where your legs are spread in a "V" up above you in order to initiate the spin.

  5. Step 5

Bring your legs in towards your torso as you start to spin. Raise your upper body towards your legs. Spin on the fleshy middle part of your back, not the lower or upper back, to keep the spin going for as long as possible.
