How to Bead Multiple Strand Necklaces

Add some pizazz to your look by making a multiple strand beaded necklace. You don't have to be experienced in jewelry making or crafts to make your own necklace. With the right supplies and tools, you are limited only by your imagination.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make as many strands of the necklace as you would like. Most women prefer a three strand necklace.

  2. Step 2

String the beads on each strand as you would for a single strand necklace. Before you finish the single strands, decide if the strands will all be the same length or if they will be graduated in length.

  3. Step 3

Add the clasp end and hook end on one strand, as though you've made a single necklace.

  4. Step 4

Add the second strand to the finished necklace. Place a finish bead at the end of your strand of beads on one end, then place a crimping tube at the very end of the strand to be added to the finished necklace.

  5. Step 5

Draw the end of the strand through the loop at the end of the finished necklace and pull it back through the finish bead and crimping tube. This is done much like you would make a knot in sewing, by looping the thread back onto itself.

  6. Step 6

Use the crimping tool, or needle nose pliers, to crimp the tube until you make a groove in the crimping tube.

  7. Step 7

Move the crimping tool to just below the clasp and crimp it again. Take special care that the crimping tube doesn't inhibit the movement of the necklace.

  8. Step 8

Repeat the back loop and crimping on the opposite side of the necklace, but make sure you take up the slack before you finish the strand. Take up the slack by moving all the beads to the connected end then slide the finish bead down to them.

  9. Step 9

After you put the finish bead on, slide the crimping tube on and repeat. Place as many strands on the single clasp and hook end as you'd like.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a multi-strand clasp and hook if you want to keep the strands separated.
