Replacing an outdated light fixture is one of the easiest ways to update a room and increase the value of your home. Fixtures provide light, but they are also a part of your home's decor. Installing them correctly will bring you satisfaction time you flip the switch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare to install your new fixture by turning off the power.

  2. Step 2

Secure the mounting bracket in place.

  3. Step 3

Attach the wiring that runs the electricity to your light fixture. Secure each wire to the appropriate color, white to white and so forth. Usually, the black wire is hot, the white wire is neutral and the bare wire is ground. If the wires in your old light fixture don't have traditional colors, contact a professional electrician.

  4. Step 4

Twist the matching wires together and secure them with a wire nut. The bare wire is typically copper and should be wired to the copper wire and secured with a wire nut.

  5. Step 5

Place the new light fixture appropriately and secure it with the screws provided by the manufacturer.

  6. Step 6

Turn on the power and test to ensure the light is working properly.
