Step 1
Stand about a foot from home plate. Keep your feet slightly more than shoulder width apart. Place your front foot about six inches forward towards the plate. Your knees should be slightly bent.
-
Step 2
Grip the bat properly. Use your non-dominant hand and wrap it around the lowest part of the bat. Place your other hand and wrap it around the bat directly above your first hand. The knuckles of your hands should line up.
-
Step 3
Hold the bat behind you at more than a forty-five degree angle but less than ninety degrees. Your hands should be behind your ear.
-
Step 4
Keep weight slightly more on your back foot. This will help you step into the pitch. Avoid leaning forward over the plate which will interfere with your swing and cause you to lose your balance.
-
Step 5
Have your body facing home plate. Your toes should not point towards the pitcher. Your head is the only part of your body that will face the pitcher during your stance.
-
Step 6
Adjust your stance slightly as needed. As you develop your baseball game determine what adjustments in your stance need to be made. Slightly bending your knees more, raising the bat a bit higher or placing a bit more weight on your back leg may help your swing.
