How to Gather Supplies for a Balloon Hovercraft

When you have children, you can do experiments together to teach them about science. For example, you can build a balloon hovercraft. Once the balloon hovercraft is completed, it will float on its own across a body of water. You can build this homemade hovercraft by gathering up supplies from around the house.

Things You'll Need:

• Compact disc
• Pin
• Cardboard
• Pipe and pipe cutter
• Glue and hot glue gun
• Sand paper
• Balloons

1. Find an old compact disc. When you build the balloon hovercraft, the compact disc makes up the body of the vessel.

2. Gather the additional supplies that you need to connect the compact disc to the balloon: a piece of pipe, a small pin and a piece of cardboard.

3. Make sure you have the tools needed to work on the balloon hovercraft. You need a hot glue gun, sand paper and a pipe cutter. You use the hot glue gun to glue the hovercraft together. You need the pipe cutter to cut the pipe needed to connect the hovercraft. The sand paper smooths out the burrs on the pipe.

4. Buy a package of balloons. You want to have several balloons available in case one of the balloons pops. After all of the supplies are accounted for, you can begin assembling the balloon hovercraft.

Tips & Warnings

• If you plan to do this project with a child, use caution when handling the hot glue gun. Use the lowest setting possible on the hot glue gun.
• You may want to consider using safety goggles and gloves when building your balloon hovercraft.
