Disc golf has grown immensely in popularity. Utilizing similar rules to golf, it focuses on tossing a Frisbee into a basket in the least amount of throws from the tee. You will find courses in state and local parks. A backhand throw is one of the most common ways to toss a disc in disc golf.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Face the target at which you are aiming. Make sure your body is relaxed and your shoulders are square to the basket.
Step2
Take one step forward with the same side foot as your throwing arm. This is your dominant foot. If you throw the disc right-handed, this is your right foot. If you throw the disc left-handed, this is your left foot.
Step3
Step with your non-dominant foot behind your dominant foot. As you took the previous step, your body turned to the side getting ready to throw the disc. Place your non-dominant foot behind and use it as a pivot.
Step4
Push off with your non-dominant foot, driving your body forward and propelling your dominant foot ahead for another step.
Step5
Throw the disc as your dominant foot lands its second step. This "step, drop-step, step and throw" is how you complete the backhand throw in disc golf.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice using different sized discs as you would use different size clubs in golf.
  • Create your own makeshift disc golf course by laying out garbage cans in various spots throughout the woods or your backyard. Or play house to house in the city by using the trash cans already on the sidewalk. It's a great way to practice your backhand throws.
