Scratching is a technique that's used in dance clubs across the country. You can do some scratching of your own, starting with the baby scratch technique.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place the record of you choice on the turntable and set down the needle.

  2. Step 2

Hold your fingers lightly on one side of the record.

  3. Step 3

Move the record back and forth with your wrists. Maintain a light pressure with your fingers.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with the tempos of your baby scratching. When you emulate the baby scratch, you can do it slowly, quickly, or in a syncopated fashion.

  5. Step 5

Emulate the baby scratch by letting the record spin a little before replacing your hand and resuming your scratching.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you stay with the rhythm of the music while you're emulating the baby scratch.
