After you master controlling a traditional hand puppet, you can move onto more complex types of puppets like the glove arm puppet. With a glove arm puppet, you can make the puppet move in a more involved manner while showing a range of character emotions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your right hand at the puppet's head. As with traditional hand puppets, your dominant hand is used to control the mouth of the puppet.

  2. Step 2

Take your left hand and put it inside the provided glove. Your left hand controls the left arm of the glove arm puppet. Take some time to move the puppet around before you perform.

  3. Step 3

Perform different movements with each hand. You move the glove arm puppet in a different way than traditional hand puppets. When you make the mouth of the puppet move, you have to focus on the arm movements of the puppet as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many puppets on television and in the theater are glove arm puppets. Another person helps control movement if any of the puppets have two arms.
  • Don't move both of your hands in the same motion when controlling the glove arm puppet. This makes the puppet's movements appear unnatural.
