How to Disassemble an Alto Saxophone

By regularly disassembling your saxophone, you ensure that it will last longer. Each part of the saxophone comes apart and can be placed in a case for safekeeping.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

1. Open your saxophone case before you start disassembling the instrument. Place each piece in the case as you take the sax apart.
2. Loosen the screws on the body of the sax and remove the gun from the saxophone's body. The gun is still attached to the mouthpiece.
3. Remove the mouthpiece from the gun by pulling it apart. Place the gun into the case carefully.
4. Loosen the screws on the ligature and remove the reed from the mouthpiece. Sterilize the mouthpiece with sterilizing solution before putting it away. Place the reed into a small plastic case to protect it.
5. Take the mouthpiece and place it into the case with the other parts of the saxophone.
6. Unhook the neck strap from the saxophone's bell. Clean the inside of the bell with a sax cleaner which looks like a fuzzy stick. Lift the bell, twist it and place it in the case.
7. Put the neck strap in the case. Close the case and latch it shut.

Tips & Warnings

• Clean the saxophone regularly.
• Wipe the outside of the saxophone with a soft cloth.
• Don't forget to check the pads on your keys to make sure they are not coming apart.
