The alto saxophone adds a rich, lush sound to any orchestra or band. It is also one of the most popular instruments among schoolchildren. To play the instrument properly, you must spend hours practicing your breathing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Breathe from your diaphragm so that the sound that comes out of the alto sax is rich and full. This will also allow you to play and hold notes for longer counts.

  2. Step 2

Twist the mouthpiece if you are playing the saxophone from the side. This will allow you to breath easier and will allow the air to enter the saxophone. It also makes it easier to read music without tilting your head.

  3. Step 3

Practice breathing deep every day and each time you practice the saxophone. The more you practice your breathing, the longer you will be able to hold the notes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean the mouth piece and other parts of the saxophone after each use. Change the reed as needed.
