Airbrushing is a creative way to express your style on everything from traditional artwork to athletic shoes. Outlining your airbrush design in black makes a bold statement. With practice, you'll soon outline like a pro.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a clean air gun. You want to leave a crisp black line to highlight your work, so be sure no other colors are present in the gun.

  2. Step 2

Hold the airbrush approximately 4 to 6 inches from your project and use short, swift strokes to begin your outline. Thicker lines are recommended to highlight borders, while thinner lines are typically used to delineate interiors.

  3. Step 3

Create extra-thick outlines by airbrushing two narrow lines in black and filling them in. This is easier than trying to create a very thick line in one continuous motion.

  4. Step 4

Work with a slow and steady hand. Remember that you can go over a line with another coat to achieve the full coverage and depth that your project requires.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create crisp lines by using waxed paper to catch overspray.
  • Airbrushing an outline is a skill that takes some time to master, so don't get frustrated or lose your patience.
