Aikido is a Japanese martial art used for self defense. This discipline utilizes pressure points on nerve centers to subdue an opponent, unlike other martial arts designed to injure or kill. The Kosa Dori-Dai Ikkyo is an Aikido move you can use against an opponent who grabs your arm. Practice this move with a partner.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask your opponent to face you and grab your right hand as if you were shaking hands.

  2. Step 2

Step forward and pull your arm and the attacker's arm above your head. Continue to move in a forward motion.

  3. Step 3

Force the opponent down by twisting and applying pressure to his arm.

  4. Step 4

Walk forward when the opponent is on his knees. Keep walking until she is flat on the ground. Place your free hand on the inside of the opponent's elbow to keep her arm straight. Move down onto your knees once the opponent is on the floor.

  5. Step 5

Pull the opponent's wrist and arm. Stretch them back to cause him pain. When practicing remember he is not an actual attacker. Do not pull or twist too hard or you will injure him.

  6. Step 6

Pin the opponent's arm flat on the floor. Focus your body weight on her wrist and elbow. Remember to lean into her arm.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practicing this technique without floor pads can cause serious bodily injury.
