You start a step aerobics class with the basics. The first step in the class will be the "tap up" step or the basic tap step. You want to execute this move with precision and timing. Over time, you'll find that the step gets easier as you add speed to your movements.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand directly behind your step bench with your feet together, flat on the floor. Use 8 counts to complete this sequence. Each step or tap of your foot will have a count.

  2. Step 2

Step forward and place your right foot in the middle of the bench (count 1). Pull your left foot off the floor to "tap" or touch the bench beside your right foot (count 2). Don't shift your body weight into your left foot, just tap.

  3. Step 3

Swing your left foot back down to the ground and into the starting position (count 3). Pull your right foot back down to the floor and place it beside your left foot (count 4). You have completed half the step.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the previous movements, starting with your left foot. Place your left foot in the center of the bench (count 5). Pull your right foot up to "tap" or touch the bench beside your left foot (count 6). Don't put your body weight on your right foot.

  5. Step 5

Step back into the starting position on the ground with your right foot (count 7). Pull the left foot down to the floor into the starting position (count 8) to finish the step.
