How to Do a Basic Right to Left Step Aerobic Exercise

Rate: (2 Ratings)

The most basic movement in step aerobics consists of simply stepping up and down, one foot at a time while facing forward. You step first with the leg you're working on during the movement.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Aerobic step platform
  • Tennis shoes
Step1
Face the step platform with your hands on your hips. Breathe in and out slowly, becoming aware of your breath.
Step2
Bend your right leg slightly and step up onto the center of the platform with your right foot. Place your entire foot securely on the step. Shift your weight forward and bring your left leg up. Keep your legs parallel with your hips, leaving distance between your feet.
Step3
Shift your weight to your left leg as you bring your right foot back to the ground. Place your foot 6 to 8 inches away from the step. Bring your left leg down, still keeping your legs at least as far apart as the width of your hips.
Step4
Reverse by stepping onto the platform with the left foot first, followed by the right. Step down with the left, then down with the right.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a harder workout, place your feet a greater distance apart as you start and as you step. Keep your knees bent as you step up and down to intensify the workout for your leg muscles. Increase the height of the platform to challenge yourself more on each step.
  • Consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise routine.
