The foot sweep move with an advanced grip in Sambo martial arts is challenging for the thrower as well as the throwee. Because the opponent lands flat on his back, he must learn how to fall without injuring himself. The foot sweep move with an advanced grip in Sambo martial arts can be applied in any martial art.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stand before your opponent. Step forward with your left foot and place it beside his right foot.

  2. Step 2

    Grasp your opponent in the over the back grip. Bend your opponent's torso forward by putting your right arm over your opponent's right shoulder and grasp the belt of his gi. If he's not wearing a gi, you can grab the waistband of his shorts. His head will be by your side.

  3. Step 3

    Pin your opponent's left arm with your left arm. Keep your opponent low.

  4. Step 4

    Place the sole of your right foot against the front of his ankle. Lift your opponent and arch your back, pulling up on his belt.

  5. Step 5

    Turn your torso to the right, throw your opponent onto his back and land with your full weight on top of him (he should exhale while falling). Your belly should pin your opponent to the mat while your knees brace against his right side. Your braced arms will be against his left side.

Tips & Warnings
  • The fall is close to a break fall, and your opponent has little time to prepare himself to land without injury. Learn the technique slowly and properly before applying it in real time or during a competition.
