Submission moves are key to the ground fighting that much of Sambo focuses on. In a submission move, you force your opponent to submit through fear of injury or pain. With advanced Sambo skills, you can set up an elbow crush submission move when your opponent is trying to break your leg guard with his arms.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get into position with your partner to practice this advanced move. Lay on your back with your legs wrapped around your opponent's midsection and crossed behind him. He should kneel as close to your body as possible with his arms free.

  2. Step 2

Let your partner attempt to break your guard by moving her elbows between herself and your legs, which forces your legs apart and frees her. Allowing her to break your guard once gives you a feeling of what you're trying to stop her from doing. Get back into position to practice the submission move.

  3. Step 3

Defend yourself the next time he attempts to break your guard by opening your legs before he's able to force them apart. As you do, grab his elbow in one hand and his wrist in the other.

  4. Step 4

Move the arm that's holding her elbow around her arm so you're now holding her elbow to your chest. Once you have a hold of his elbow, force his wrist between your legs.

  5. Step 5

Bring the leg closest to his wrist over the top of his shoulder on the side that you're holding his elbow. Cross your legs, bringing him into your body, to achieve the elbow crush submission move.

Tips & Warnings
  • Because this is so advanced, you should set up the move carefully to practice it.
