A reversal throw in Sambo martial arts allows you to reverse your opponent's attack and turn it against him. This move can be applied to any martial arts or MMA competition. Concentrate on executing it quickly and cleanly.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a martial arts stance with one leg about a shoulder-width before the other, and your weight low and centered.

  2. Step 2

Grasp your opponent's collar or put your hand on his left shoulder with your right hand.

  3. Step 3

Grip your opponent's sleeve near the upper arm. If there is no sleeve, grasp his upper arm. Your opponent stands in the same fashion.

  4. Step 4

Prepare yourself as your opponent attacks, advancing deep with his front foot between your own. Hook your back leg with his back foot and leg. As he advances, he will attempt to push you over backwards.

  5. Step 5

Perform the reversal throw move by using the energy of your opponent's attack against him. As he forces your body backward, pivot your body to the left, retaining your grasp on your opponent.

  6. Step 6

Force your opponent off his center of balance and bring him with you as you turn.

  7. Step 7

Transition into the reversal throw move by bringing your right arm, over and down while still grasping your opponent's left shoulder.

  8. Step 8

Throw your opponent to the mat by continuing to throw both arms down. His body should fall sharply as he falls backward over your bent knee.

  9. Step 9

Place your right knee on your fallen opponent's side while you hold his right arm up rigidly from his body with your hands.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice the reversal throw in Sambo martial arts many times with a sparring partner. Do the move slowly at first, then build up speed so that you can perform the move in a match.
