Sambo is a Russian martial art that combines Judo and wrestling. The kick up and throw under leg move can prevent your opponent from pinning you to win a match. It requires balance and strength to get the leverage you need to execute the move.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand in a martial arts stance with one foot before the other, about shoulder-width apart, with your knees bent and your center of balance low.

  2. Step 2

Grasp your opponent's right elbow with your left hand.

  3. Step 3

Place your right hand on your opponent's shoulder. Your opponent will be grasping your shoulder with his right hand and your elbow with his left in an effort to gain control.

  4. Step 4

Enter deep by moving your front foot between your opponent's legs. Your forward movement will force your opponent to straighten slightly.

  5. Step 5

Pivot to the side so that your body is facing in the same direction as your opponent, but you are now standing beside him.

  6. Step 6

Kick up with your back foot, forcing your opponent's forward foot to rise also. Because you have not released your grip and your leg is forcing your opponent's leg up, you can twist his body, forcing him to lose his center of balance.

  7. Step 7

Continue twisting your opponent's body and throw your arms forward. This will throw your opponent away from you and to the mat. Visualize throwing not just your opponent but your energy as well. You can direct your opponent anywhere you wish.

  8. Step 8

Make sure you always have a deep approach when performing the move. If you do not get close enough to your opponent at the beginning, you can't knock him off balance quickly or control him efficiently.

Tips & Warnings
  • Kick your leg as high as you can when performing the move. If you don't kick up high enough, your opponent may regain his footing and balance.
