Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Get into scissor entry position, where your foot is behind your opponent's knee furthest from you and you're next to your opponent rather than in front of him. Place your arm over his shoulders.
Step2
Balance on your standing leg as you reach towards your opponent's far ankle, well underneath the knee that you've hooked with your foot.
Step3
Grab the outside your opponent's ankle as you roll to the ground towards the leg you were standing on. Bring your opponent down to the mat with you.
Step4
Notice that your opponent's leg is now under the armpit of the arm that you grabbed her ankle with.
Step5
Complete the ankle submission move by now clasping your hands together over your opponent's other leg. Grab it firmly and pull it towards you, twisting it against her other leg.
Step6
Move quickly into the scissor entry and through the ankle submission after you've practiced the basics. The closer to an actual combat situation you can make your practice, the more effective your Sambo will be in self-defense situations.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice the ankle submission move in slow motion a few times before you do it at actual speed. If you can place your foot and hands accurately in slow motion, your body can remember the moves when you're doing the ankle submission at actual speed.
