Kickboxing is used by many for strength training, body sculpting and basic fitness. However, there are many moves in kickboxing that should only be used for self-defense, such as the jab cross using both elbows. Practice this move with a full-sized punching bag and not with a sparring partner, as your elbows can be lethal weapons. Always protect your hands with boxing gloves when working with a punching bag.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin in the four-point stance with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Put yourself in a defensive position with your fists up to cover your face. Your dominant foot and hand should be forward slightly.

  2. Step 2

Jab hard and fast with your non-dominant hand, followed by a cross jab with your dominant hand. Remember that your jabs will be stronger and you will reduce the risk of injury if you keep your elbows tight to your body.

  3. Step 3

Pause for a split second and then jab again with your dominant hand, but this time instead of using your fist, use your elbow. If you treat your elbow as you do your fist, you will impact the punching bag with the upper portion of your forearm. Follow up quickly with the opposite elbow.

  4. Step 4

Direct your elbow jabs towards the neck or face of your opponent. Only use this move if you are physically at risk from an attacker; your elbows are extremely powerful weapons, and you can badly hurt someone.
