Cheerleading is an activity that incorporates organized dance and gymnastic routines to cheer on teams during sporting events. Some people also pursue competitive cheerleading. Tumbling in advanced cheerleading goes beyond handstands and cartwheels.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Warm up before tumbling. Your warmup should include a blend of stretching and cardio exercise.

  2. Step 2

Practice falling correctly. Everyone will do some falling while cheerleading or while learning to tumble. Performing a safety roll when you fall is the best way to prevent injury. Hug your arms over your chest and roll onto your back. Going into a safety roll when you fall will prevent you from following the instinct to put an arm out to break your fall, which could also injure your arm.

  3. Step 3

Master the fundamentals of cheerleading tumbling. This includes handstands, cartwheels and somersaults.

  4. Step 4

Learn the basic tumbling techniques. Every cheerleader must be able to perform a flawless Round-Off Back Tuck and Round-Off Back Handspring Back Tuck. Keep practicing these two tumbles until you get them right every time.

  5. Step 5

Move on to more advanced tumbling techniques such as the Tuck in Laid Out Position and the Back Handspring Full Twist. These two are more difficult to perform but are required in many cheerleading routines. Repetition and practice is the key to mastering them.
