Stunts were first used in cheerleading during the 1950s. Since then, cheerleading stunts have become more complicated and elaborate. A liberty stunt is a widely used stunt in advanced cheerleading. The stunt is normally done with five to six people, although for those who master it, a liberty stunt can be performed with only two people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Find cheerleaders for each part of the liberty stunt. The first position is the flier. The flier is usually the lightest and most flexible of the group. Two bases are needed for this stunt. Both need to have strong arms and legs. The back spot needs to be a tall cheerleader with a strong grip. The front spot needs long arms and a strong grip.
Step2
Get the cheerleaders in position with the flier in the middle. Place the two bases at the flier's sides. The front spot stands in front of the flier and the back spot stands behind the flier.
Step3
Clap hands on the 1-2 beat.
Step4
Set the stunt on the 3-4 beat. The bases bend down. The flier places both hands on the shoulders of the bases and bends one knee. One base holds the bottoms of flier's bent foot. The other base holds one hand on the flier's heel and the other on top of the flier's foot. The back spot puts one hand on the flier's ankle and the other hand on the rear of the flier.
Step5
Lift the flier on the 5-6 beat. Everyone lifts with their legs and arms. The flier jumps into the air. The bases and the back spot hold the flier's' feet above their heads. The front spot braces the bases' wrists.
Step6
Make the liberty shape. The flier lifts the unsupported leg so the foot is level with the support knee with his toes pointing down. Raise the arms in a high "V' position.
Step7
Release the hold on the foot and ankles. Have the flier lean back to fall into the waiting arms of the bases, front spot and back spot.
