Step 1
Choreograph a routine that's entertaining. Make it challenging but enjoyable and balance the dance steps and gymnastics to give the audience a glimpse of your squad's skills without overwhelming them. Motivating the team's fans should be a focal point for the opening sequence.
-
Step 2
Complete standing routines with twists. Add a full or double-full twist to give your opening cheer a memorable ending. Use one or two advanced techniques like pyramids and basket swings during the opening cheer.
-
Step 3
Combine crowd-pleasing moves. The opening sequence revs up the fans, so use stunts and flips to get them cheering. Combine jumps, back tucks and basket tosses to increase the visual factor of the opening sequence.
-
Step 4
Synchronize the cheerleading team's opening techniques. Pick music that accentuates the counts and cues the cheerleaders to dip, toss or catch on time. Ensure that the cheerleaders performing the stunts circle each other so they can watch cues clearly.
-
Step 5
Cheer loudly when the squad's players take the field or court. Show your team spirit. Cheer along with the other team's squad as they perform. This increases camaraderie and keeps the cheerleaders energized.
