A homecoming mum is a large corsage decorated with long streamers in the school's colors. Bells and other trinkets are tied onto the streamers to make them more ornate. It's usually worn by women in the middle of their chest with the steamers, hanging down the front of the body almost to the ankles. Homecoming mums are not only a fashion statement but also a symbol of love.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose bells, charms and other trinkets that have a hole in the top of them for ease of tying them onto the streamers.

  2. Step 2

Pick colors that complement the colors of your streamers, which are your school colors. Choose some contrasting colored trinkets so they can be easily seen when wearing your homecoming mum.

  3. Step 3

Decide where you want to place your trinkets and bells. Put two or three onto each streamer. Take care when placing them so they are evenly spaced and not too close together.

  4. Step 4

String the hole on the trinket onto the streamer and place it where you want it.

  5. Step 5

Tie a basic knot in the streamer to hold the bells in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make a smaller, matching version of your homecoming mum for your date. Boys wear homecoming garters with mums on their sleeve to complement their dates.
  • If you want to add ribbon curls to your homecoming mum, attach them after you have tied all of your bells and trinkets into place.
