Step 1
Know the three single bass notes before adding more bass chords. The three single bass notes can be found in the middle of the accordion, with your middle finger on the little rhinestone and your index and fourth finger with the middle finger. This should give you C, F and G.
-
Step 2
Find the equivalent major chords by moving your fingers down, meaning towards the palm, from the exact location they are in. A chord is three or more notes played at the same time. Accordions are set up to do this for you with the push of only one button.

Step 3
Notice the same response for each of the single notes. Find the G single note, then move diagonally down from the note and you will find the G chord. This is also true of F and F chord. Take a moment to play around with this concept and notice the difference in sounds, between the single note and the matching chord.

Step 4
Understand the 1-4-5 pattern. This is what this note to chord change is called and is used most often in folk and rock music. For example, if you use C as one, then F is the four (as it is four notes away from C), and G is five. This pattern is the key to most songs.
