How to Play the Flute for Beginners

Learn the basics of the flute before you try to play. Study how the flute parts go together and then practice blowing into the flute before you begin playing notes. Concentrate on lessons for beginners before moving on to more difficult challenges.

Instructions

1. Have the right accessories to keep the flute in good working order. such as a flute case, a tuning rod, a cleaning rag, a cleaning stick, a polishing cloth and a tiny duster.

2. Assemble the flute parts correctly. Add the head joint to the middle section of the flute by gently pushing the head into the middle part.

3. Adjust the head so the keys align with the keys on the body of the flute. Add the foot of the flute and make sure the keys line up properly with the rest of the keys.

4. Position your hands correctly on the flute. Place the left hand at the top of the flute resting your left fingers on the top keys and your left thumb under the flute covering the B flat key. Your left palm should be facing you.

5. Place your right hand on the top of the flute resting your right fingers on the remaining keys and your right thumb under the flute.

6. Sit on a chair with your back straight and your arms in the air holding the flute up in front of you.

7. Breathe into the flute by blowing over the mouth piece until you make a sound. Pretend you are spitting out sunflower seed shells to get the right mouth formation.

Tips & Warnings

• Be careful not to squish the keys when you are putting the flute together.
