Creating individual envelopes to go with greeting cards adds a personal touch that tells others how much they mean to you. Whether you design the greeting card yourself or purchase it, you can delight in both the process of making the envelope and in sharing it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Regular envelope
  • Paper
  • Adhesive tape
  • Scissors or pinking shears
  • Ruler
  • Glue stick
  1. Step 1

Open up the glued seams of a regular envelope to use as a pattern. It's all right if it tears a little.

  2. Step 2

Adjust the size of this pattern to fit your card. To make it smaller, fold it in the middle, either horizontally or vertically, and tape it in place. To make it larger, cut down the middle and tape a piece of blank paper where you cut. Reshape the flaps.

  3. Step 3

Place this pattern on the back side of the paper you choose and trace around the edges lightly with a pencil.

  4. Step 4

Cut out along the pencil lines. For a distinctive touch, use pinking shears instead of regular scissors.

  5. Step 5

Fold over the side flaps first, using the ruler to make straight lines. Crease well. Repeat with the bottom flap and the top flap.

  6. Step 6

Apply glue to the lower edge of the two side flaps and press the bottom flap against the glue.

  7. Step 7

Tuck the top flap inside the envelope after you have inserted your greeting card. Or you can seal it with glue or a colorful sticker.
