Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Select a theme for your birthday card. Think of the recipient's favorite hobbies and activities to personalize the birthday card. For instance, if you enjoy fishing with your dad, personalize the birthday card with a fishing theme.

  2. Step 2

Gather card stock, construction paper, scissors, stickers, die cuts, rubber stamps and markers to start making your card. Local craft stores such as Hobby Lobby carry these items to fit any theme. For this dad card, look for fish-related stickers, paper and accessories and use colors associated with nature such as green foliage and blue lakes.

  3. Step 3

Fold the cardstock or construction paper in half either vertically or horizontally. Start with a standard size 8 ½ -by-11 inch prefolded card.

  4. Step 4

Create text using letter stickers or markers to fit your theme. The Ivyjoy website provides sample verses and text for a custom birthday card. Use "You're a Great Catch, Dad" for the cover and "Happy Birthday" with other stickers and a photo from a fishing trip inside the card.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the back of the card with a logo. Use this logo for all the birthday greeting cards you create as a fun way to further personalize it.

  6. Step 6

Design a card online if you are not confident in your artistic ability. American Greetings offers all the tools to create a printable birthday greeting card.
