Mascara can subtly enhance a look, boost it with a shot of high glamor or destroy it by making you appear garish. It all comes down to how you apply this makeup staple to your eyelashes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Warm your eyelash curler before you apply your mascara. This will help train your eyelashes to curl up and will increase the effects of the mascara.

  2. Step 2

Use a mascara wand with a skinny top so that the implement can reach the innermost corners of the eyelashes. Many times women neglect the corners of their eyelashes when applying mascara. Touching up the corners of the eyelashes will dramatize the eyes.

  3. Step 3

Apply the mascara to the upper side and lower side of the top lash. Most women only apply mascara to the under side of the top lash. This can result in droopy lashes.

  4. Step 4

Go over the top lashes at least twice to maximize your results.

  5. Step 5

Roll the mascara wand gently over the upper side of the bottom lash. Use less formula on this lash because the bottom lashes are thinner. It is not necessary to do more than one coat on the bottom lash.

  6. Step 6

Remove any mascara from above your eyelid or underneath your eye with a cotton swab or Q-tip.
