The yo-yo was invented around the 6th century B.C. and used by both the Romans and the Chinese. Performing with a yo-yo has become a competitive sport and there are various tricks to master from the simple to the complex. Start by learning how to properly hold and throw a yoyo.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put the yo-yo in your dominant hand. Place the loop of the string around your middle finger between the knuckles.

  2. Step 2

Hold the yo-yo with your palm up and extend your arm parallel to the floor. The string should be coming off the top of the yo-yo when it's placed in your palm correctly.

  3. Step 3

Bend the elbow and bring the forearm back above your shoulder.

  4. Step 4

Turn your palm down and throw the yo-yo. Use your muscle to make a powerful throw.

  5. Step 5

Bring the yo-yo back with your hand palm up. A powerful throw will use gravity to return the yo-yo to you. You have just performed the "gravity pull."
