Step 1
Ask the clerk for a gift box when you purchase something for Christmas. Most stores offer gift boxes for free, if you purchase the item in their store. You may have to go to the customer service center with a receipt to get the gift box.
-
Step 2
Decorate the cardboard box with beautiful ribbon and bows. A plain white cardboard box looks beautiful when fancy ribbons and bows are used to wrap it. Try wired bows, velvet or satin bows for an elegant look. Gifts for children can have a playful touch with yards of self-curling ribbon used as a bow.

Step 3
Wrap an odd-sized gift in a cardboard tube. Use toilet tissue tubes, paper towel tubes and old gift wrap tubes to disguise your gift. Larger gifts, like a golf club, can be wrapped using 2 cardboard tubes. Tie ribbons at both ends for a "candy wrapper" look. Wrap the cardboard tube with red and white ribbons to get a "candy cane" look.

Step 4
Add a creative touch to your cardboard box by adding stencils, stamps or drawings. Gold stars added to a plain white cardboard box looks beautiful when gold ribbon is added. If the gift is for a collector, get stamps or stencils of the collectible and add to the top of the cardboard box. Cut out the cardboard box and let colorful tissue paper show through. For example, you could cut out snowmen figures from the top of a white cardboard box and wrap the gift inside with deep blue tissue paper. The blue tissue paper will show through and emphasize the snowman cut-out.
