Stains are a nasty reality of dinner parties and evenings curled up with your favorite bottle of wine. There are several commercially prepared products made for wine stains that work quite well. However, some of the most effective remedies for red wine stains are found in your own kitchen and medicine cabinet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Blot a red wine stain with a cloth soaked in white wine. The white wine acts as a solvent to remove the red wine stain. Continue blotting with a clean area of the cloth until the stain is removed. If it is not removed completely, proceed to step 2.

  2. Step 2

Apply table salt to the stain. Rub a generous amount of table salt into the red wine stain. As the salt penetrates the fibers the color begins to lift out of the fabric. Repeat this process with clean salt and a fresh towel until the stain is removed. If it lingers, proceed to step 3.

  3. Step 3

Mix a solution of equal parts liquid dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Apply this solution to the stain in generous quantities. Allow the stained area to soak in the solution for maximum stain-removal success.

  4. Step 4

Launder the fabric according to the care instructions. Use a good quality laundry detergent in order to remove all traces of your stain removing solutions from the fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hydrogen peroxide can bleach or discolor certain fabrics. Test your solution in a small hidden area before using it on your fabric.
  • Do not put the fabric in the clothes dryer until you are certain you have removed all traces of the stain. The heat could set the remaining stain permanently.
