Step 1
Reverse the way you started. If you wind off counterclockwise, wind in your kite in clockwise motion.

Step 2
Don't wind the kite string while it's still in the air -- you'll be working against the wind. It's easier to set the kite on the ground by walking toward the kite and allowing it to lower.

Step 3
Note that all kite winders are not the same. A flat kite winder with notches on the ends may be easier to work with than a spool-type kite winder. Another kind available is a circular or halo winder.

Step 1
Place a colored mark on each line of a multi-line kite. This will make identifying the kite lines easier when winding and easier to untangle if the lines become twisted.

Step 2
Mark the same corresponding colors on your winding tool so you won't get confused when you detach the line from the kite.

Place both loops of the line set together at one corner of your kite winder. Wind to the opposite corner of the winder.
