How to Maintain Your Car Window Tint

After-market window tint for your car has many advantages, and maintaining your car's window tint is actually pretty easy. Know what products and materials are safe to use on your car's window tint and you'll keep it looking as good as it did the day it was installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Expect that for the first 3 to 5 days after your tint is installed, depending on weather conditions, your windows may appear to be a bit hazy. This is not an indication of a problem, but is a normal part of the drying process.

    • 2

Clean the inside of you windows, which is where the tint is installed, with a special glass cleaner made for window tint. You can purchase this through the dealer who installed your car's window tinting.

    • 3

Mix together a 50/50 solution to clean your car window tint that is made up commercially available window cleaner and water. Plain water may also prove to be an effective cleaner, as the laminate itself makes the window easier to keep clean.

    • 4

Use a soft cloth to wipe your windows clean to ensure you won't scratch the tint.

    • 5

Keep the outside of your window clean with any kind of glass cleaner you desire. Since window tint is installed on the inside of the glass, it's the only area that requires special treatment.

    • 6

Be cautious when unbuckling your seat belt that it doesn't hit the window as it retracts, which could leave a scratch. The same holds true for using extra care when loading your vehicle that you don't allow anything to rub against the tint.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't roll your windows down when your tint is new until you are sure it's completely dry. As this varies by manufacturer, follow the advice of your installer as to how long you should wait.
