How to Make Real Fruit Ice Cream
While fruit ice cream contains no milk and is not a true ice cream, it's a delicious treat on a hot day. Express your creativity with the basic recipe and try out different combinations of fruit. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 3 cups fresh or frozen fruit
- 1 cup orange or pineapple juice
- ½ cup sugar
- Blender
- Strainer or sieve
- Loaf pan
- Pre-chilled mixing bowl
- Electric mixer
- Dessert dishes

Combine the fruit, fruit juice and sugar in a blender. Cover the blender and blend until the mixture is smooth.

Strain the mixture or press it through a sieve to remove the seeds and skin. Add more juice if the mixture is too thick.

Put the mixture in a loaf pan, cover it, and freeze it until firm, about 4 hours.

Break the mixture into chunks and put it in a chilled mixing bowl and beat it until it is creamy and smooth, but don't allow it to melt.

Put the mixture back in the loaf pan and freeze it until it's firm, and then serve it in dessert dishes. The recipe makes 3 cups of fruit ice cream.

Tips & Warnings
Any fruit makes delicious fruit ice cream, but bananas, strawberries, peaches, raspberries and nectarines are especially good choices.
To add a gourmet twist to the fruit ice cream recipe, blend in 2 tbsp. of liqueur. Orange, cherry or peach are especially delicious.
For an extra special touch, add a few pieces of fresh fruit to the top of the fruit ice cream, or garnish the edge of the dessert dish with a slice of orange, lemon or lime.
