    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Crescent wrench
    • New water supply line
    • Thread sealing tape
      • 1

Measure the length of supply line you will need. The easiest one to work with is the braided stainless steel tube. It is flexible and comes with connectors on both ends. Measure the distance from the inlet and shutoff valves and then purchase the next bigger size line from the hardware store.

      • 2

Shut off the water supply to the toilet. It should have a handle to turn, much as you would find on an outdoor water faucet.

      • 3

Flush the toilet several times to drain all of the water from the tank. Use a towel to soak up any excess water left.

      • 4

Loosen the nut or other type of connector that fastens the supply line to the water supply pipe that comes from the wall. Loosen the connection from your supply line to the toilet tank. Remove the old water supply line.

      • 5

Wrap four or five layers of thread sealing tape clockwise around the pipe threads. When you fasten the connections, the tape will create a better seal.

      • 6

Put the new water supply line in place and securely fasten the nuts or connectors at both ends so that water doesn't leak from them. Turn the water supply back on and let the toilet tank refill.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you aren't sure which length or type supply line to buy, just get a variety and return the ones you don't need to the store after your project is finished.
