Tissue paper ornaments are perfect for young children to craft, because they require no scissors. They make a fun family project and are so inexpensive that children can make one for everyone on their gift list.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Styrofoam balls, approximately 3 inches in diameter
  • Tissue paper in a variety of colors
  • Liquid starch
  • Hairpins
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Waxed paper
  • Toothpicks
  • Decoupage
  • Foam paint brush
  • Yarn or ribbon
  1. Step 1

Lay a sheet of waxed paper on your working surface.

  2. Step 2

Poke a toothpick into the Styrofoam ball to use as a handle.

  3. Step 3

Use the foam brush to apply liquid starch to a small section of the Styrofoam ball. Lay a piece of tissue paper over the starch, and then apply a thin coat of starch over the top of the tissue paper. Continue applying pieces of tissue paper until the ball is covered, overlapping each piece and coating them with liquid starch.

  4. Step 4

Allow the Styrofoam ball to dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Apply a thin coat of decoupage solution to the ball, to seal it from moisture and add shine. If you want to use glitter, sprinkle if on while the ball is still wet.

  6. Step 6

Allow the Styrofoam ball to dry completely and remove the toothpick.

  7. Step 7

Push the hairpin into the ball and attach a piece of yarn for a hanger.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you would like the tissue paper ornaments to have an antique appearance, brush on a bit of gel wood stain.
