Things You'll Need:
- 2 pieces of black construction paper
- White pencil
- Scissors
- Tissue paper
- Glue
-
Step 1
Stack the 2 pieces of construction paper and fold them in half horizontally.
-
Step 2
Draw half of a butterfly on one half of the folded construction paper with a white pencil. Place the body on the fold and the wings furthest away from the fold.
-
Step 3
Cut your butterfly out, making sure both pieces of construction paper are still aligned.
-
Step 4
Keep the butterfly folded. Draw large designs on the wings, using the white pencil. You'll cut these out later, and anything to small is difficult to cut. Beyond the size, you can be as creative as you want to with the designs, making this a great way for kids to explore their imaginations.
-
Step 5
Fold the construction paper slightly over one of your designs so you can pierce it with scissors. Cut out the design carefully, making sure the paper stays aligned. Continue with each design you drew, cutting holes through all four layers.
-
Step 6
Unfold the 2 butterflies and lay one down on your work surface. Choose tissue paper for the holes you cut out. Cut the tissue paper to cover the holes, working on one wing at a time.
-
Step 7
Add glue to the edges of your butterfly and press the cut tissue paper on top of it. Cut off any tissue paper that hangs over the edge. Glue the second butterfly to the back of the tissue-covered butterfly to create a finished look.
