Step 1
Choose a tie with medium-weight to heavyweight fabric. Better quality ties work better because they drape well.
-
Step 2
Put the tie around your neck with the narrow end on your right side. The seam should be down. The wide end of the tie should be hanging about 12 inches longer than the narrow end.
-
Step 3
Loosely grasp the narrow end with your left hand. Cross the wide end in front of the narrow end. Loop the wide end around the right side of the narrow tail, and then come behind it. At this point the seam of the wide end of the tie should be facing out.
-
Step 4
Pull the wide end up and through the opening at the neckline. Shift the wide end to the right side. Bring it over the knot from right to left. The bridge is now complete.
-
Step 5
Bring the wide end up through the opening at the neckline again. This time pull the wide end through the top loop on the bridge.
-
Step 6
Hold the narrow end while you straighten the bridge of the tie. Pull the narrow end to tighten the knot. If you have done it right, the seams should be facing toward your body.
-
Step 7
Practice until you are comfortable making the tie look right. You may find it easier to knot your tie in front of a mirror.
