Many teens like the look of jeans with holes. Many schools, however, have rules against wearing revealing clothes and depending on where the holes are located, these cool "ventilated" jeans may be against the rules. You can solve this problem by stitching a patch behind the hole in the jeans, carefully leaving the worn fabric on top.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Pins and scissors
  • Matching or contrasting fabric for a patch
  1. Step 1

Set your sewing machine to the basting stitch setting.

  2. Step 2

Cut a patch two times larger than the hole you need to patch. Cut rounded corners on your patch to make it stronger and longer lasting.

  3. Step 3

Turn the jeans inside out and baste the patch in place behind the hole. Remove the jeans from the sewing machine and turn them right side out.

  4. Step 4

Switch the machine to a wide zig zag stitch and carefully center the hole under the needle of your sewing machine.

  5. Step 5

Sew around the hole, staying close to its edges. When you need to turn the jeans to continue sewing around the hole, keep the needle down through the fabric. Lift the sewing machine foot and turn the fabric carefully.

  6. Step 6

Lock the stitch in place by sewing a back stitch when you have finished sewing around the hole. Then, carefully cut the threads and remove the jeans from the sewing machine.

  7. Step 7

Remove the basting stitches and trim the patch so it is only slightly larger than the original hole in the jeans.
