How to Remove Soap From Molds and Cut

By eHow Contributing Writer

Soap molds can be anything from PVC pipe to simple plastic bins. Using a plastic liner in soap molds will make removing the soap much easier. If you use PVC pipe, secure the ends with plastic wrap and elastic bands. If you are using a plastic bin, make sure it has an airtight lid.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Press the bottom of the soap in the PVC pipe mold, using a bottle to remove it. If using a plastic bin as a soap mold, lift the plastic wrap liner out of the mold.

  2. Step 2

Cut one slice off the end of the soap. Check for any signs of water or oil. The soap should feel firm (not hard) and should be dry, not slimy.

  3. Step 3

Mark the soap in even intervals for cutting.

  4. Step 4

Use a decorative corrugated cutter, if you are cutting a finished product. Otherwise you can cut it with an ordinary kitchen knife.

  5. Step 5

Cure the soap for a week after removing it from the mold if you plan to hand mill it. If you plan to use the soap as is, let it cure for an additional three to eight weeks.

  6. Step 6

Turn individual bars once a every couple of days, to make sure they don't warp during the curing process.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the soap doesn't come out of the molds with some gentle prodding, pop the mold into the freezer for a few minutes. The cold air will cause the soap to contract, making it easier to unmold.
