Mixing the oils to make lye soap is a matter of precision and preparation. After choosing the recipe, purchasing all of the ingredients, it is time to mix the different oils together to make lye soap.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Weigh all the ingredients carefully before mixing and place in a convenient location. Mark off each ingredient and weight on your recipe card as you go along.

  2. Step 2

Place the pitcher on the scales and put the scales to zero. This ensures that weighed ingredients do not factor in the weight of the container.

  3. Step 3

Pour coconut oil into the empty pitcher still sitting on the scale. Often coconut oil needs a 10 to 20 seconds in the microwave to loosen it out of the original container.

  4. Step 4

Use a spoon to add the cocoa butter, canola oil and beeswax, in that order, to the pitcher and make a note of the exact weight on your recipe card or on paper. You'll need exact measurements.

  5. Step 5

Tip the pitcher full of oils into a medium stainless steel saucepan, making sure to get every last drop of mix out of the pitcher.

  6. Step 6

Turn an oven plate onto low heat and place a saucepan on top. It doesn't matter if the stove is electric or gas just as long as the burner is very low to prevent the oils from burning.

  7. Step 7

Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until the beeswax, the last item to melt, has turned into tiny lumps. Switch off the burner and remove from heat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Weigh oils in standard ounces and not in liquid measurement
