The heel flip is a fun trick to learn after you've mastered the ollie. This trick begins as an ollie but after popping the board into the air, you flip the board around with your toes, then land on it. Here are the steps for landing a heel flip on a skateboard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start in ollie position with the back foot on the tail of the board and the front foot in the center on the front bolts.

  2. Step 2

Pop the tail of the board while sliding the front foot up so that the toes are hanging off the board.

  3. Step 3

Lift up the back foot to pick up the tail of the board and flip it, using the heel of the front foot to make it spin side over side, not end over end.

  4. Step 4

Land back on the board after it flips horizontally and skate away.

Tips & Warnings
  • Heel flips and ollies, like other skateboard tricks, are done more easily when you're wearing flat-soled skate shoes and have good grip tape on your board.
  • As always when skateboarding, wear protective gear including a helmet and knee pads.
  • Don't overspin the board or you could wind up landing on the wheels and trucks (underside of the board) or primo (on the upward facing edge of the board that has landed on its side). Either of these landing positions could cause you to fall or injure your feet as you land incorrectly.
