The switch ollie turns your skateboarding style upside down by placing what's usually your front foot on the tail of the board and your back foot up front. Learning to switch ollie is an integral part of being a solid all-around skater who can deal with all kinds of situations. Follow these steps to do a switch ollie in skateboarding.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get your switch stance by placing your back foot at the front of the board and your front foot in the back. This leaves you skating facing the opposite direction than you're used to. Stand on the board to make slight adjustments and then skate around for a while to get comfortable on your new switch stance.

  2. Step 2

Pop your back foot while standing in place. Jump with both feet just after you pop the board. Practice popping and jumping like this a few times without worrying about your landing.

  3. Step 3

Work out the kinks by paying attention to the height of your back foot. Exaggerate your back foot jump to compensate for its weakness and relatively poor coordination.

  4. Step 4

Focus on landing the standing ollie by keeping both feet even when you jump up. Make sure the board stays level underneath you as you jump.

  5. Step 5

Do the switch ollie in motion by skateboarding at a moderate pace and then putting all the pieces together. While you may not land the first few (or even few dozen) switch ollies, a little bit of practice will get you performing smooth switch foot ollies.
