Salmon fillets are a healthy and delicious choice for any diet. Flipping salmon fillets when cooking on a gas grill can be a challenge if not done carefully. The cooking process doesn't take long, so knowing how and when to flip is essential for perfectly grilled salmon.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a thin spatula when working with salmon fillets on a grill. Thicker spatulas can cause the fish to crumble and break down when being flipped.

  2. Step 2

Marinate salmon fillets with your favorite combination of oil and herbs. You can also use butter.

  3. Step 3

Remove salmon fillets from the marinade and brush with the reserved liquid before placing on a hot grill.

  4. Step 4

Place salmon fillets skin side down and brush the tops again with the reserve marinating liquid. Close the grill cover and allow the fish to cook halfway through but not flaky.

  5. Step 5

Grasp the thin spatula firmly and quickly push under the fillet. In one motion, lift and flip the salmon over to the uncooked side.

  6. Step 6

Close the grill and allow the salmon to cook completely through before removing from the grill. Salmon should flake easily with a fork when done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the skin on the fish to hold the protein in and protect it from flaking too soon. If your guests don't like skin, it is easily removed after cooking.
  • Plan on about ten minutes of total cooking time for each inch of fillet thickness. Divide cooking time per side based on the total thickness of your fillets.
